Hiring Blackheath Quaker Meeting House

We have two rooms available for hire in our Meeting House in Blackheath Village, for regular or occasional bookings. Our rooms are ideal for meetings, workshops, exhibitions or community events, with the facilities of the village right on the doorstep.

Our unique building is on two levels and can be divided into separate, self-contained areas on two floors, each providing toilet and kitchen facilities. Stepless access from the street for wheelchairs is available on both floors.

There are plenty of tables and chairs. There is also some limited storage space that can be used, with permission, for hirers’ equipment.

Blackheath Village has excellent public transport links (shown on our map), and there is metered parking at the station nearby. Parking along Independents Road is controlled by the Blackheath Hospital, and access to the road is blocked at certain times. Parking spaces are available on Sunday. Limited free parking within the curtilage of the Meeting House can be made available to hirers by arrangement.

The main meeting room upstairs is near-square in shape: maximum dimensions 8.6 × 7.6 metres, area 65 m² (678 ft²). The room is lit by a central lantern and via skylights in the ‘turrets’ at the four corners. The floor is carpeted. Seating capacity depends on the arrangement of the chairs, but up to 80 can be accommodated in the usual arrangement. The maximum limit is 100.

Pictures can be hung on all the walls of the room. (The hanging facilities are concealed, so do not appear in the photographs of the building.)

Outside the room is a large lobby (58 m², 624 ft²). Opening off this is a unisex toilet with disabled access and baby changing facilities. There is a good-sized kitchen with tea/coffee making facilities, food preparation area and a small microwave oven.

Large mobile display stands for pictures, posters, etc., are available for use in the lobby or the main meeting room.



The room is rectangular in shape: maximum dimensions 9.3 × 5 metres, area 46 m² (496 ft²). It has two doors and can be divided into two unequal halves by a folding screen. The floor is lino. Seating capacity is 40 or more.

Opening off the lobby are two unisex toilets and a small kitchen providing tea/coffee making facilities. One of the toilets has wheelchair access and baby changing facilities.



Charges are based on four-hour sessions. Fees for commercial events and parties are structured differently.

Please note that there is no on-site administration or caretaking. You will be responsible for security and will be expected to manage your own time and resources during your booking.
